ICOM is an international professional non‐governmental organisation which brings together museums and museum professionals from all over the world. Through its network, made up from more than 44,500 members representing 138 countries and territories, ICOM is committed to the conservation, continuation and communication of the world’s natural and cultural heritage, present and future, tangible and intangible. The Organisation is a leading force in the establishment of professional and ethical standards for museum activities mainly through the ICOM Code of Ethics for Museums. As an international, diplomatic forum of experts, ICOM makes recommendations on issues related to cultural heritage, promotes the social role of museums and builds capacity foe museum professionals worldwide through technical tools, publications and training programmes. ICOM’s network play a critical role in creation and exchange of scientific information at an international level in an inclusive way, as well as in the development of professional standards and the adoption of rules and recommendations for museum professionals and institutions.
